LTEC 6480 Week 7: Current Struggles

by Michelle Starcher

For the last several weeks, I have been struggling to find the time to work on my dissertation components.  I was making good progress and then Texas was hit with a snowstorm, which left me without power and water for several days.    After getting power and water back, I took my second COVID-19 vaccine shot, which made me sick for a day or two.  I am finally getting back on track, but my focus has been on trying to get caught up on other course work.

At this point, I am still working on getting caught up on other course work, preparing for presentations and proceedings files for the annual SITE conference, and big work projects.  Thankfully, I was a little ahead when the snowstorm hit, and I had already finished my methods rough draft.  In addition, I have been making steady progress on collecting and reading research for my literature review.  However, unlike the majority of the metroplex, I am not on spring break until the week of March 15th.  I am concerned that I am not going to have my literature finished by the due date.  However, I am going to make every effort to try and finish it on time.

Right now, I am struggling with the amount of work I have to do.  Between my three courses, trying to fulfill publication requirements for my portfolio, and current projects at work, I feel as though I spend all of my time staring at a computer screen.  I am trying to give myself grace, but I don’t like being behind and/or falling short of goals and deadlines.  Although it will take time to get caught up, I am trying to accomplish something each day that moves me closer to finish line.  I am thankful that for the support and understanding of my professors, who make it easier to avoid freaking out about being behind.  I am confident that I will get eventually get everything done and be back on track soon.
